St. Cyril of Alexandria
The life of Cyril of Alexandria reminds us that truth matters—but so does how we live that truth. Cyril was deeply committed to defending the faith, even in the face of conflict and opposition. Yet his ultimate goal was not to win arguments, but to protect the truth about Christ so that people could truly know and love Him.
In our daily lives, we are also called to stand for what is true—whether in our beliefs, our values, or our actions.
Cyril’s witness invites us to hold firmly to our faith while remaining rooted in love. Truth without love can become harsh, but love without truth can lose its meaning.
In our daily lives, we may not be involved in great councils like the Council of Ephesus, but we still face moments where truth is tested—subtly or directly. Sometimes it’s easier to stay silent, to avoid tension, or to go along with what is popular. Cyril challenges us not to drift into a comfortable but shallow faith. Instead, he calls us to know Christ deeply, not just on the surface, but in a way that transforms our thoughts, choices, and priorities.
At the same time, Cyril’s life also invites reflection on humility. Even when we are right, how we carry ourselves matters. Truth is most powerful when it is lived with patience, compassion, and a sincere desire for others to encounter God—not just to win a point.
Daily Reflection Question:
How well do I really know Christ, not just facts, but relationship?
